Kids.
How does Mindfulness and Meditation help kids?
Forbes Magazine says:
increases attention, focus and concentration (lessens hyperactivity)
may play a role in improved grades
manage stressors (from home, school, relationships)
lessens anxiety, increases relaxation
helps kids connect to themselves, self regulate
increases empathy, compassion and kindness!
Planting a Seed.
This is my son, Benjamin.
He meditates, because he sees me do it often.
But I get tickled pink each time he does, because I know that he’s watering a small seed that’s been planted there. It may only last 5 seconds and then he’s off racing cars, but it’s something. And as parents, we know that creating good habits for our children is very important, particularly ones that help regulate their emotions and feel compassion for others.
“Breathe in the scent of your favorite flower,
and breathe out like a snake Sssssssssss”
our common nightly ritual
As a middle aged mom of a fiery five year old boy, I wear my incoming grey hairs with pride. I’ve earned them.
I look forward to the evenings (when I can put my feet up!) after story time in bed, when we often do breathing exercises, kid style, like snake and bunny breaths. If he’s still keyed up, we may do tension and relaxation exercises, where he shows off his strong muscles.
Planting that seed …
Fun Mindfulness
And that is how I approach teaching kids of all ages, by planting a seed. You can’t knock them over the head with too much information and you have to keep it FUN. That’s really the only way they will keep paying attention.
Working together I will provide:
a curriculum or practice that aligns with your child’s or children’s UNIQUE needs
simple meditations and breathing exercises to help calm, soothe and empower
incorporate movement using fun imagery and body awareness
other mindfulness exercises to help connect them to themselves, others, and the present moment
adding music and song to expand the experience
homework to integrate the exercises into everyday real life
